A & R Cleaning, a commercial cleaning company based in Bridgend Industrial Estate, has big plans for expansion. The firm plans to add 40 new staff to the workforce in 2016 as it targets double the turnover within 12 months.
A & R Cleaning was formed in 2010, and has quickly grown to be one of the largest independent commercial cleaning companies in South Wales. The firm services over 200 commercial contracts, including Toyota and Bridgend County Council.
After leaving school at 16 with few qualifications, founder Rayner Davies started an ironing service with a handwritten advert in a window. That company quickly started growing, through recommendations and a growing reputation.
That entity was sold, co-founder Rayner Davies expanded into cleaning services – later adding additional staff. She recruited husband and co-director Ashley Davies – and A&R became the new name of the family-run firm.
A & R Cleaning currently employs over 40 members of staff, and is aiming to double in size and turnover over the next 12 months. This growth is largely being driven by a focus on recruiting new clients in the company’s specialist sectors – offices, schools, industrial units and hospitality cleaning.
Director Rayner Davies said:
“We’ve come such a long way in the last five years. When we started it was just a basic ironing service to earn some money. But by expanding, without losing that professional service and reliability, we’ve grown year on year. 2016 is going to be big for us”
There are 6 live roles being advertised, in a mix of management and cleaning positions. Rayner says recruitment is going to be one of the biggest challenges the company faces this year, due to the stringent recruitment process they have in place.
“A lot of cleaning companies will send in relief staff for jobs or untrained cleaners. We have a 10-step process that makes sure the cleaners we send in are highly trained and well-briefed. From checking out references and product training, to on-site training and supervision from a manager, we believe we have some of the most thorough training in our industry”
