Community groups close to the new Ysgol Glancegin in Maesgeirchen, Bangor are being offered the chance to bid for funding for community projects via the main contractor Wynne Construction. It isoffering community funds for projects located in, or benefitting the residents of Maesgeirchen.
Wynne Construction has been appointed by Gwynedd Council to build the new £5m school that will replace the existing Ysgol Glancegin. The project includes extensive landscaping of the school grounds and a new outdoor play and educational area along with the demolition of the existing building.
The school is due to be open for Autumn 2017 and has been jointly funded by the Welsh Government through the 21st Century Schools Programme and Gwynedd Council.
Chris Wynne, Managing Director, Wynne Construction said:
“We are very proud to be working with Gwynedd Council and building the new school in Maesgeirchen, and I hope through establishing this grant fund, it will contribute in a positive way to the community life in the area”.
Gwynedd Council’s Economy and Regeneration Department will administer the grant – applications for a value of up to £500 will be accepted. The closing date for receiving applications is 21 October 2016.
Councillor Mandy Williams-Davies, Gwynedd Council Cabinet Member for Economy and Community, added:
“The construction of the new Ysgol Glancegin is a very important development for the area. As a Council, we welcome the fact that the contractor has established the fund as a community benefit related to the contract to develop the school. This funding will provide groups in the area with an ideal opportunity to develop projects which will benefit the local community.”
