IKEA Launches Newport Pop-Up Showcasing Sustainable Living Solutions

IKEA Cardiff has launched a sustainable living pop-up on Newport’s Skinner Street which provides an interactive opportunity to pick up tips and ideas for saving energy and money.

The project is a collaboration with Newport City Homes, which has provided the retail unit for the pop-up. This follows insight from the housing association that residents increasingly want to reduce costs at home and adopt sustainable solutions, but may not have the tools make impactful change on a budget.

IKEA Cardiff findings show that 83% of customers living in Wales feel a personal responsibility to lower their carbon footprint.

Open to everyone, the Newport pop-up will provide practical and engaging guidance to empower people to live more sustainably. IKEA co-workers will be on-site offering advice and low-cost lifestyle solutions designed for a lower environmental impact, with resources that can be made of renewable and/or recycled materials.

No products will be available for purchase at the pop up, however, Newport residents can now shop with IKEA’s click and collect service thanks to its recently launched mobile pick-up point. Located at Tesco Extra Newport Spytty, this service is free for orders over £100 and £5 for all other orders.

Asa Fermandell, Market & Sustainability Manager, IKEA Cardiff, said:

“Over the last six months, IKEA Cardiff has been working with Newport City Homes to explore how we can support their customers with some of the challenges they face today and tackle barriers to more sustainable living. We’re excited to connect with Newport through our pop-up and look forward to chatting with residents on handy tips that can save you money without making huge sacrifices.”

Mark Chircop, Community Investment and Partnerships Co-ordinator for Newport City Homes, said:

“We're thrilled to be working alongside a global brand such as IKEA and bring this pop-up initiative to Newport. We hope that this will provide sustainable and practical storage solutions for our customers and the wider Newport community. We look forward to exploring more opportunities with IKEA in the future.”

The project supports IKEA’s global ambition to inspire and enable people to move towards healthy and sustainable lifestyles, by making healthy and sustainable living a desirable choice that is affordable, attractive, and accessible for as many people as possible.

The pop-up will be open daily (except Sundays) from 11am – 3pm until Friday November 8 2024.
