HID, the company behind the security card readers and access systems used in office buildings, universities, and government facilities worldwide – including several UK landmarks – has undergone a major expansion of its Cardiff office.
The expansion creates 35-40 high-skilled jobs, reinforcing Cardiff’s status as a growing hub for technology and innovation.
The investment has transformed HID’s Cardiff office into a state-of-the-art technology hub, now the company’s second-largest development centre in Europe. The upgraded facility features dedicated areas for engineering, biometrics, and software services, equipped with new firmware development stations and collaborative meeting spaces. Furthermore, the workspace is enriched with local Welsh artwork, celebrating the region's vibrant culture.
“Since choosing Cardiff as our European development hub and one of Centre’s of Excellence in 2008, we've been impressed by the wealth of engineering talent in South Wales,” said Gerald Grattoni, VP and Head of Mature Markets. “This expansion not only reaffirms our commitment to Cardiff as a centre of excellence for our global hardware innovation but also reflects the growing market opportunities we see as a business. By investing in local talent, we’re in a strong position to drive future growth and innovation.”
The Cardiff site is considered to be a Centre of Excellence and plays a critical role in the design and development of next-generation security hardware. The final phase of the renovation, scheduled for completion later in Spring 2025, will create additional space for customer support teams, further expanding HID's presence in Cardiff's growing technology sector.
