The Cardiff Business Awards 2024 celebrated the outstanding achievements of businesses and individuals who are shaping the future of Cardiff’s economy.
In this series of interviews we spotlight the winners, sharing their stories and celebrating their contributions.
Among this year’s winners is Cardiff Gold, which was honoured with the Retail Business of the Year Award. We spoke with the company’s representative, Dan Evans,, to learn more.
1.How does your business contribute to Cardiff’s community, and what impact do you hope to have on the local economy or society?
As the only bullion-specific retail and safe deposit facility in Wales, Cardiff Gold plays a unique role in the community by offering secure, accessible options for purchasing and storing precious metals. Our focus is on providing local investors with a trustworthy and convenient alternative to national and online bullion retailers, allowing them to engage directly with physical assets. This not only supports personal financial security within Cardiff but also contributes to building wealth and financial literacy in the community.
Our facility allows customers to safely store their investments, significantly reducing the risk of burglary. This service supports both individual security and broader community safety, as it encourages residents to use secure, professional storage rather than keeping valuables at home. By keeping precious metals local and accessible, we foster a more financially resilient Cardiff, and our operations directly contribute to the local economy through business growth and job creation.
Looking to the future, we aim to increase our impact by expanding our services, contributing further to Cardiff’s economic development, and supporting the community’s financial well-being. We’re proud to be part of Cardiff’s thriving business landscape and look forward to driving continued growth and financial security for the city.
2. Are there any emerging trends or innovations in your field that you believe will transform business in Cardiff?
The bullion and precious metals industry is experiencing significant changes, especially as consumers increasingly value tangible, secure investments they can directly interact with. Despite the rise of digital bullion platforms and blockchain technology for asset verification, we’ve noticed an opposite trend in Cardiff: more people are seeking a personal, in-store experience where they can physically view and handle their investments. This reflects a growing preference for local, face-to-face transactions that offer security and peace of mind.
Our safe deposit facility addresses this need by allowing Cardiff residents and businesses to store their valuables in a trusted, local environment. While digital verification technologies are expanding, we believe that having a secure, accessible, physical space to purchase and store bullion will continue to be essential in Cardiff.
3. What keeps you motivated during tough times? Are there any lessons you’d share about resilience and adaptability?
In tough times, what motivates us most is our connection with the Cardiff community and the trust our customers place in us. Every day, we’re reminded of the value our service brings to individuals who seek security for their investments, and the personal relationships we build with them keep us driven. Knowing that we provide not just a service, but peace of mind, reinforces our commitment to being a stable, trustworthy presence for our customers, especially during uncertain times.
One key lesson we’ve learned about resilience & adaptability is the power of personal connection. When we invest in building strong, genuine relationships, we create a support network that keeps us grounded. These relationships foster customer loyalty, and that trust is what sustains us, allowing us to adapt while staying true to our core values. While actively listening to customer needs and being open to feedback.
4. What advice would you give to budding entrepreneurs or professionals in Cardiff who are inspired by your journey?
To budding entrepreneurs in Cardiff, my advice is to build your business on a foundation of honesty, integrity, and maturity. Honesty with your customers and partners fosters trust—something that’s essential in any business, especially in a close-knit community like Cardiff. Be transparent about what you offer and take pride in delivering genuine value. Customers can tell when a business is built on authentic, straightforward principles, and they’ll support you because of it.
Integrity is about staying true to your values, even when faced with challenges. As you grow, there will be times when quick profits or shortcuts seem tempting, but staying committed to ethical practices and long-term relationships is what creates lasting success. Integrity in business isn’t just good ethics; it’s good business sense, as it builds a reputation that others respect and admire.
Finally, approach your journey with maturity and a readiness to learn. Every business faces setbacks, but a mature approach allows you to view these as learning experiences rather than failures. Cardiff’s community values resilience and reliability, and if you stay committed to growing and learning from every step, you’ll not only build a successful business but also earn the respect of your customers, peers, and the wider business community.
