Tech for Good platform, Work for Good calls on small businesses to get involved with the Small Business Star campaign and fundraise for charity through their sales this Christmas.

As the nation moves towards the end of a very difficult few years, many charities are still feeling the brunt of the pandemic. Many saw donations fall at a dramatic rate and as thoughts turn to Christmas, charitable giving platform Work for Good is highlighting the enormous difference that small businesses are bringing to charities.

Work for Good is a tech-for-good fundraising platform that helps small businesses, including sole traders, fundraise for charities through the sales of their products and services. The platform makes it simple and legal for small businesses to set up sales fundraising campaigns in support of their favourite charities and publicise this to their customers and clients.

By digitising the legal requirements and creating a supporter friendly Commercial Participation Agreement, Work for Good takes away the need for lengthy contracts required between each business and charity, which can often be so complex and prevents charities accepting small business donations. Since its launch the platform has raised £1.5 million in charitable donations from the many incredible small businesses who give via sales fundraising.

In the lead up to Christmas, Work for Good are calling on small businesses to sign up to their Small Business Star campaign and raise more money for their chosen charity with the Work for Good match funding pot of £50,000. By paying in their raised funds via their Work for Good account, from 9am on Monday 6th December, small businesses will have their donations doubled up to £250 per business, whilst funds last.

Veronica Bamford-Deane, Managing Director at Work for Good said:

“The festive season is an exciting time when many small businesses will launch sales-based fundraising campaigns and increase their charitable donations. Businesses really do want to do good, help their communities and give back to the causes they care about. It’s inspiring to see the big difference small businesses are making through their charitable giving and to hear from charities so grateful for the support they're receiving.

“We know that many small businesses, including start-ups and sole-traders, want to give to charity through sales fundraising, but can be held back by the complexity. When you run a business, you are pulled in so many different directions which is why we created Work for Good to make it as simple as possible for them to give in a way that works for them.

“It's incredible to think that £1bn of charitable income could be created every year if one in 20 small businesses donated just 1% of income”.

One charity benefiting from small business sales fundraising is Tommy’s, the baby charity which funds research and provides pregnancy health information to help save babies’ lives. Since joining Work for Good in November 2019, £62,773 has been donated to Tommy’s by small businesses.

One of the 54 small businesses that have supported Tommy’s include Pattie & Co, an ethical brand selling products for babies. They donate 10% of the sale of every blanket to the charity and have so far raised an incredible £14,769 for Tommy’s.

Small business Founder of Pattie & Co, Cat Price, said:

‘Work for Good has made charitable donations a really simple, straightforward process for us. It gives peace of mind on the legal side, and it takes no more than a few minutes each month to administer’.

Grounds for Good https://groundsforgood.co.uk is donating a proportion of their sales profits to The Wallich, a small Welsh homelessness charity. Founded in 2020, during lockdown, by retired medic come beauty entrepreneur, Dr Rosie Oretti, the principle aim of the company is to change what we consider to be waste.

Drawing upon her years of experience, Rosie has harnessed ‘three angles of good’ to form GFG and has curated a collection of personal care and lifestyle products. All embrace the beneficial powers of reused coffee grounds and their powerhouse extracts.

With over 2,600 small businesses signed up to the platform, and over 1,000 charities, it’s evidence that small businesses really want to make a big difference.
