Family-Run South Wales Transport Firm Enters New Chapter Following Acquisition

Rob Cherry, James Lewis-Hyndman, Bev Fowles, Claire Fowles, Adrian Westoby, David Fowles and Alison Vickers.

When Swansea-based South Wales Transport (SWT) agreed its sale to Tower Transit, it marked a major step for a much-loved local operator with deep roots in the community.

SWT began life as a family-run company founded by Bev and David Fowles, and what started as a small local operation grew steadily. His son, David Fowles, has guided the company through modernisation and steady expansion over the last 15 years.

The acquisition incorporates SWT’s 47-vehicle fleet and, as part of the deal, David will remain in the business and continue to oversee day-to-day operations.

The distinctive green and white brand will also remain in place, as Tower Transit has made clear that it values SWT’s local identity and intends to preserve it while supporting the business with new investment.

Tower Transit is part of the Kelsian Group, a major international transport operator with thousands of employees and services across the UK, Australia, Singapore and the United States.

Within the UK, Tower Transit is Kelsian’s bus service brand, running large fleets, complex networks and franchised bus systems. This depth of expertise places SWT in a strong position as Wales prepares for the introduction of bus franchising from 2027, the firm said.

The transaction was led by Rob Cherry and James Lewis-Hyndman of Peter Lynn and Partners Solicitors. Rob said:

“We were delighted to support a respected local business through such an important milestone. SWT has a proud Swansea heritage, and helping to secure its long-term future was a privilege.”

James added:

“This was a detailed and carefully structured deal. Our company and commercial team worked closely with all parties, especially Alison Vickers of Bevan & Buckland, who provided expert and invaluable support on the financial side of the transaction. It is excellent news that David will continue to guide the operation and that the SWT brand will remain on the roads of South West Wales.”

Managing Director David Fowles said:

“When we decided to sell our business, there was only one firm of solicitors that we trusted to get our deal over the line. Rob, James and the rest of the team at Peter Lynn and Partners were absolutely superb all the way through the negotiations. We would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone.”
