Work to upgrade the local electricity network in Port Talbot will begin on Monday 9 March 2026.
National Grid Electricity Distribution will be installing new underground electricity cables between Briton Ferry and Ynys Street substations. The work will help strengthen the network and improve the reliability of power supplies for homes and businesses across the area.
Work is expected to take nine to 12 months, depending on ground conditions. It will be carried out in sections along the route, starting at the Ynys Street end. Much of the work will take place in the highway and traffic management will be in place at times.
A rolling road system will be used, meaning only short sections of the route will be affected at any one time. This approach is designed to minimise disruption while allowing the work to be completed as efficiently as possible.
Residents and businesses within affected sections may be asked to move vehicles and avoid parking in specific areas for limited periods. Those impacted will receive advance communication with details of dates and expected durations. Access to properties will be maintained at all times.

National Grid Electricity Distribution will work closely with the local authority throughout the project and will continue to keep the community informed as work progresses.
