Cardiff Metropolitan University is set to showcase innovation, collaboration and cutting-edge research initiatives at its Research and Innovation Week 2024.
The week-long event, taking place from Monday 1 July, will include a diverse range of events aimed at bringing together researchers, industry leaders, and external stakeholders to explore innovative solutions to global challenges.
Research and Innovation Week 2024 will kick off with a grand launch event featuring a keynote address by the Future Generations Commissioner, Derek Walker.. Attendees will also hear from the Welsh Government’s Head of Innovation, Abi Phillips, Professor Di Crone, Director of the Centre for Health, Activity and Wellbeing Research (CAWR) at Cardiff Met, will be presenting the Supporting Global Sustainable Development audit report.
A session on Developing Effective Collaborations will provide a platform for participants to explore partnership opportunities and forge valuable connections across sectors, with attendees hearing from Geraint Jones from Innovate UK, Richard Hawkins from SO Modular, Mark Lewis from the Welsh Government, Hayley Mills from InBio, Emma Wootten from Age Connects Torfaen, and Prof. John Littlewood, Dr Imtiaz Khan and Dr James Blaxland from Cardiff Met.
A further session will showcase dynamic presentations – designed to be concise, with strict time limits Ingenuity: Lightning Talks will feature Cardiff Met academics presenting their exciting research and innovation work, including subjects such as designing a sleep positive world, circular economy communities and innovation, Welsh language and climate change, online interaction and safety, chronic wound infections, bio waste fuels and others to be announced.
One of the highlights of the week will be the Supervisor Symposium on Friday 5 July, when the groundbreaking ‘Researcher Wellbeing Cymru’ an online platform for doctoral researchers will be unveiled. This project, funded by HEFCW, is set to revolutionise support for doctoral researchers, further cementing Cardiff Met's commitment to nurturing talent and driving impactful change.
