Cardiff Castle to Host 2025 Welsh National Field of Remembrance

Cardiff Castle will host the 2025 Welsh National Field of Remembrance, as Wales prepares to mark Remembrance Sunday.

On Wednesday 5th November, an opening ceremony will bring together civic leaders, including the Lord Mayor of Cardiff, Cllr Adrian Robson, Cardiff Council Leader, Cllr Huw Thomas and Welsh Government representative Jane Hutt, to honour the memory of those who have served and lost their lives in conflicts past and present.

Dignitaries will take part in a Two Minute Silence and write personal tributes and plant commemorative crosses in the castle grounds, continuing a tradition that connects generations and communities across Wales.

The Rt. Hon. The Lord Mayor of Cardiff, Cllr Adrian Robson, said:

“Each year, the Field of Remembrance stands as a powerful reminder of the courage and selflessness of our armed forces. It offers an opportunity to honour all who have served, to remember those who gave their lives, and to support the families who carry their legacy. The Field is not only a tribute to the fallen, but a living symbol of our enduring respect and gratitude.”

More than 3,000 crosses and markers will be displayed within the castle, a tradition which began in 1928 with poppies planted at Westminster Abbey, around a wooden cross from the battlefield grave of an unknown soldier.
