Partnerships developer Lovell has hosted its 31st annual charity golf day in Cardiff, raising £15,000 for three charities.
Hosted at Whitchurch Golf Club, near the developer's regional head office, the event saw 104 employees, subcontractors and partners tee off for a day of friendly competition, socialising and fundraising.
During the day, players competed in ‘nearest the pin' and ‘longest drive' challenges, before enjoying a charity auction consisting of prizes donated by Lovell clients and supply chain partners. Phil Steele, one of Wales' most popular sports broadcasters, also attended the event as a guest speaker.
Lovell has been hosting charity golf days in South Wales for 31 years, having raised now more than £166,500 for charities across Wales. This year, the chosen charities are Llamau, Tŷ Hafan Children's Hospice and Brain Tumour Research.
Llamau supports young people, women and children at risk of or experiencing homelessness in Wales, and to date has supported over 160,000 people. The charity provides safe, supported accommodation and Step into Wellness, Education and Employment programmes supporting young people aged 16-24 to re-engage in education, build confidence, gain qualifications and unlock new pathways to further education or employment, all with the goal of preventing and eradicating homelessness. The £5,000 donation from Lovell will equip Llamau's education centres across South Wales with six new laptops and six iPads, accessible to an estimated 240 learners annually for their learning and coursework.
Tŷ Hafan provides specialist care and support for children with life-shortening conditions and their families across Wales, ensuring that no family faces the challenges of a child's short life alone. The charity delivers vital services both at its hospice in Sully and within communities across mid Wales, South East Wales and South West Wales.
Brain Tumour Research funds sustainable research at dedicated centres in the UK and campaigns to increase the national investment in research into brain tumours. The charity and Lovell have launched a partnership in memory of much-loved colleague Mick Laws, Managing Director for the Lovell London region, who died in January after being diagnosed with a brain tumour. The Big Lovell Brainwave is a two-year campaign, aiming to raise more than £100,000 to help find a cure for the disease through a series of fundraising events across the country.

“For the siblings of a child with a life shortening condition, taking part in social activities can be limited, with them often acting as young carers and having to ‘miss out' on other opportunities they may have had due to the complexities of the care their sibling needs. Scout Camp brings peer support with other siblings who face similar challenges, supports independence, teamwork, and most importantly a chance to have time without pressures and responsibilities.
