This free multi-agency business briefing is an opportunity for SMEs to network and learn more about the latest cyber-security threats to business, learn practical tips and tools you can use to limit risk to your business and to discover how the University of South Wales is closing the skills gap in cyber-security.

This event includes keynotes from Barclays, TARIAN Regional Cyber Crime Unit and University of South Wales academics, as well as a tour of our National Cyber Security Academy. We’ll also be providing information on how your business can benefit from free support by working with our Cyber Security Academy.

Find out more about the Regional Cyber Crime Unit and how they are working with organisations to prevent and support in cases of cybercrime.

What is ransomware, and how is it used in an attack? Detective Sergeant Warren Davies will be sharing a case and demonstrating what happens during a ransomware attack on business. Hear how TARIAN tracked attackers across Europe, and how they then used data from this case to help protect businesses from similar attacks in the future.

Helen Gilbert, Digital Engagement Manager at Barclays will discuss Social Engineering, Authorised Push Payment (APP) fraud and how to prevent it, the introduction of ‘Confirmation of Payee’, plus other tips to help stay safe online

10:50 – Amila Perera, Lecturer in Information Security and Forensics, University of South Wales

USW academic Amila Perera will be talking about the new face of Phishing attacks and the challenges in defending against them. Amila will share insights into one of his research products currently being developed to improve cyber-phishing aware and resilience in the region.

11:20 – Clare Johnson, Head of Cyber Security, University of South Wales

USW academic Clare Johnson will be discussing the University’s role in developing the next generation of cyber-security professionals through applied learning, and discuss opportunities for business to get involved with the Cyber Academy – an innovative approach to skills development which enables business to access a conveyor belt of talent, whilst collaborating on industry-led projects and, in turn, plugging the skills gap that currently exists
