St Tydfil Shopping Centre is delighted to be bringing back its popular Pride of Merthyr photography competition and is inviting members of the local community to submit photos of their favourite place in the area.

The competition aims to showcase the beauty of the town and in 2018, 112 entries were received. These included photos of popular places such as Pontsticill Reservoir and Cyfarthfa Castle, as well as the industrial past at Ifor Works, the beautiful Taf Fechan Nature Reserve, and the historic Brecon Mountain Railway. Any photo can be entered into the competition, as long as it features Merthyr Tydfil.

From all the entries received, 10 will be chosen to go on display in St Tydfil Shopping Centre for the community to admire, and the public will be asked to vote to decide the overall winner via its Facebook page. Last year, a photo of a snowy Pontsarn Viaduct taken by Konrad Gwozdz was voted as the winner.

Lee Simmonds, Centre Manager at St Tydfil Shopping Centre, commented:

“This is the fourth year we have held our Pride of Merthyr competition and every year we’re astounded by the quality of the photographs we receive. We’re looking forward to seeing what people choose to photograph this year.”

Those wishing to submit a photograph simply need to email it to [email protected] by Saturday 31st August confirming the location, along with the photographer’s name, age and contact details. A total of three entries from one person will be accepted and full terms and conditions can be found on St Tydfil Shopping Centre’s website – www.sttydfilshoppingcentre.co.uk.
