Transport for Wales is delighted to sponsor Pride Cymru’s Big Weekend 2019, which takes place in Cardiff over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

TfW is extremely proud to be part of the festival, and to mark this, we are offering free rail travel on our services for all Pride Cymru volunteers to and from the event.

Over 50,000 people are expected to attend Wales’ biggest celebration of the LGBT+ community, which includes a mile-long parade, a community market, four stages and performances from stars including Atomic Kitten, Liberty X and Texas.

This year marks the event’s 20th anniversary, as well as the 50th anniversary of the landmark Stonewall riots in New York in June 1969, one of the key moments in the history of the LGBT+ liberation movement.

TfW will be participating in the main parade, with our colleagues representing the rail industry in Wales alongside colleagues from Network Rail, Great Western Railway and British Transport Police.

James Price, chief executive of Transport for Wales, said:

“Pride Cymru’s Big Weekend is one of the most important celebrations of the LGBT+ movement in the UK. I’m very excited for TfW to be involved, as part of our commitment to promoting a strong culture of diversity and inclusivity in everything we do. I hope everyone attending has a fantastic weekend!”

David Jones, facilities assistant at Transport for Wales, said:

“This is my first Pride Cymru working for TfW and I’m really excited that the organisation is embracing the event. I’m looking forward to taking part in the event with my colleagues, particularly as part of the main parade on Saturday!”

Gian Molinu, Pride Chair and Legal Director added:

“Pride is about diversity and inclusion and Pride Cymru is extremely happy to be working with TFW this year as official travel partners as they are the perfect example of a company that celebrates diversity. Huge thanks for the support that TFW are giving us and we can’t wait to have the team celebrate with us this weekend”
