Training Provider Clocks up 1,125 Miles for Cancer Research

Staff from one of Wales’ leading training providers have run, walked and cycled 1,225 miles since the start of the year to raise money for Cancer Research.

The award-winning company, which has offices in Welshpool, Llanelli, Builth Wells, Holyhead and Colwyn Bay, has exceeded its target of covering 1,000 miles but has yet to visit all 22 counties of Wales as planned.

Fundraising currently stands at £1,064.25 and anybody wishing to help the company reach its target of £1,500 for Cancer Research can donate online at:

The fund is set for a major boost when a team of 10 from Cambrian Training, comprising staff and friends, tackle the Cardiff Half Marathon on Sunday, October 6.

The team includes chief operating officer Faith O'Brien, marketing manager Katy Godsell, management information analyst Alex Hogg, marketing assistant Kim Williams, operational unit support officer Donna Heath,  personal assistant to the board Sarah Wilde, data administrator Hollie Bumford, Essential Skills tutor Tracey Dawson, headteacher of Caereinion High School Philip Jones and Compass Group’s apprenticeships quality and compliance manager Barry Rotherham.

The team has been training hard and has completed a mixture of road, trail and fell races as well as training runs that are now up to the 10-mile mark.

Training officer Sarah Jones boosted the fundraising this summer by completing the Across Wales Walk, while Donna Heath ran the Heart of Wales Ultra Marathon. The remaining hard miles have been covered by staff from across the company on training runs and races.

Staff emphasise that there is still time for apprentices and employers, with which the company works across Wales, to join in the fundraising challenge. Counties still to be visited include Merthyr, Monmouthshire, Swansea, Torfaen, Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly and Bridgend.

It’s the second year running that the company has adopted Cancer Research as its charity, having raised £855 in 2018.

“We have calculated that we need to cover 45.5 miles in each Welsh county to reach our target during 2019,” said Katy Godsell. “We would like to include all the counties to illustrate that Cambrian Training delivers apprenticeships across the whole of Wales.

“We are raising money for this fantastic charity because cancer has touched so many of our lives. Together we want to beat cancer.”

Cambrian Training specialises in the delivery of apprenticeships and employability opportunities across a range of industries pan-Wales. The Apprenticeship Programme in Wales is funded by the Welsh Government with support from the European Social Fund.
