Swansea Man Raises Charity Cash on Cycle Ride Across Tour de France Route

A Swansea man has taken on a charity cycle ride with support from UKSE.

Tim Carr, from Swansea, joined the other hundred or so intrepid charity riders on Le Loop, on the Tour de France route in advance of the real event.

Riding across Spain and France and covering the three mountain ranges of the Pyrenees, Massif Central and the Vosges the journey has been incredibly challenging, yet Tim was always determined to raise maximum funds for the William Waites Memorial Trust.

He estimates his efforts will have brought in £25,000.

Tata Steel subsidiary UKSE provided a £500 bursary through its Community Support Fund to help with expenses along the way. Other costs were funded by Tim's business Tide Advisory, so that all money raised goes directly to the charity.

The event is held each year to raise funds for the charity set up in 1998 in memory of Will by his family, after he was tragically killed while on his gap year.

Tim said:

“The Trust aims to support disadvantaged young people through the mediums of art, sport and education to keep them away from a life of crime and violence.

“It offers a lifeline to many young people and I am delighted to be helping it continue its excellent work.”

UKSE's Community Support Fund helps individuals and local groups around Wales, and particularly steel communities.

UKSE Area Manager Michelle Noble said:

“We are delighted to be giving Tim a helping hand in this fantastic endeavour. His commitment, and that of the others taking part is amazing and the aims of the William Wates Memorial Trust fit perfectly with the Community Support Fund.”
