Fans heading to Oasis concerts in Cardiff this summer will bring an estimated £100.3 million spending boom to the city.
New research from Novuna Personal Finance shows that the band’s opening shows at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on July 4 and 5 will be one of the biggest cultural and economic events the city has seen in years.
The first leg of the iconic reunion shows are expected to attract around 149,000 fans. Each concert in Cardiff is forecast to generate £50.2 million in fan spending, with a net local economic impact of £26.8 million – benefitting everything from local pubs and restaurants to hotels, shops, and transport services.
According to Novuna’s report, fan spending will be spread across several key areas, with much of it flowing into Cardiff’s economy, including:
- £23.6 million on food and drink
- £23.4 million on tickets
- £20.4 million on shopping and leisure throughout the city
- £17.7 million on travel including journeys to and within the host city
- £10.7 million on merchandise
- £4.5 million on accommodation
Theresa Lindsay, Chief Marketing Officer at Novuna Personal Finance, said:
“Oasis choosing Cardiff to launch their long-awaited reunion tour is a landmark moment, both for the fans and the city. With fans expected to spend over £100 million across the first two nights alone, this is proof that live music powers our cities far beyond the arena gates. It’s a major economic event.
“From pre-show drinks to overnight stays, this tour will bring life to every corner of the city – and showcase Cardiff’s status as a top-tier live music destination.”
