New Airbnb Initiative Set to Boost Tourism Pwllheli

Airbnb has launched a new campaign – with the help of the UK public – to boost tourism and the local economy in Pwllheli.

The travel platform is offering to cover the cost of one night’s stay for visitors to six destinations across the UK – the first offer of its kind from Airbnb – and Pwllheli was voted for by more than 15,200 people as one of the destinations to participate in the new campaign.

Over the next four weeks,

“First Night On Us” from Airbnb will champion the market town, along with five other destinations, encouraging domestic travellers to rediscover the UK with affordable staycations.

With the Airbnb community boosting the UK economy by an estimated £4.2 billion last year alone, the new campaign aims to spread the economic benefits of tourism to destinations less travelled.

In addition to Pwllheli, the chosen destinations include:

  • Appleby-in-Westmorland, England
  • Cushendun, Northern Ireland
  • Callander, Scotland
  • Pontefract, England
  • Croyde, England

Patrick Robinson, Airbnb, Campaign and Policy Director, said:

“Our community of hosts and guests help to spread the economic benefits of tourism beyond the traditional hotspots, and we want to help more domestic travellers discover, stay in and explore the nation’s hidden gems, while putting money directly in the pockets of more local families, businesses and communities across the UK.”

First Night On Us is rolling out across the UK on social, digital and print media and in cinemas. For those wanting to take a trip to Pwllheli, Airbnb will release 180 coupons for the destination on 10 October. Visitors get up to £150 off their first night’s stay, when they book at least a two night stay in local accommodation on the Airbnb platform and the stay starts by 30 December 2019.

Coupons and more information will be available from www.airbnb.com/firstnight
