Staff and pupils at Mary Immaculate High School have been determined to stay healthy and keep active during the lockdown. Our fantastic PE staff have been posting videos each week of work outs for pupils and staff to follow and healthy recipes to try.
Following a superb response to this the one of our PE staff organised a fundraising event to support the charity Action for Children. On April 26th, the day the London Marathon would have taken place this year, the PE team set the 2.6 challenge for staff and pupils. The aim was to complete a different type of exercise each hour from 8am to 8pm. Each exercise would be completed 26 times, once for each mile of the London Marathon.
Mrs White, who organised the event said
“many charities are losing out on money that would have been raised through the London Marathon. We wanted to help support Action for Children whilst encouraging our staff and pupils to be more active.”
As always, our pupils and staff were happy to take part with many posting videos of their efforts online. Through online donations we were able to raise £1100 for Action for Children and would like to thank the community for donating so generously and thinking of others during this difficult time.
The PE department aren’t stopping there though and are continuing to plan activities to keep us all healthy and active during lockdown. This week staff are attempting to walk 406 miles, the distance from our school to Anglesey and back. Staff are keeping track of the distance they walk each day as part of their daily exercise and we are adding up all the miles to reach our collective goal. We are also continuing to raise money for Action for Children as part of this effort and are hoping to increase our total raised even more.
Mr Crimmins, Head of the Arts Faculty, said
“we are fortunate to have such an enthusiastic team of PE staff that are really going the extra mile to keep our staff and pupils active during lockdown. I am very proud of our school community for embracing the challenges that have been set and for raising money for such an excellent cause.”
