Healthcare Professionals Join BHF Cymru for North Wales Conference on Cardiovascular Health

British Heart Foundation (BHF) Cymru was joined by more than 100 healthcare professionals from across the sector in Ewloe, Flintshire, to discuss cardiovascular disease (CVD) in Wales.

BHF Cymru CVD Healthcare Professionals Conference has been launched by the charity with the purpose of showcasing best practice of cardiology in Wales, and is an open invite for collaboration on the current and future challenges facing cardiovascular health in Wales. This was the second event since its launch in 2024, and the first held in North Wales.

Contributors including NHS Wales, Save a Life Cymru and the National Cardiovascular Research Network provided analysis of a breadth of topics, including health inequalities cardiology treatment, peer support in heart failure care, racial and ethnic inequalities in healthcare. The conference also heard from clinicians about their experiences of the cardiac pathway, which informed a number of panel discussions.

Hassan Al-Kaabi, Health and Care Lead at BHF Cymru, said:

“We were delighted to bring so many people together for our first Health Conference in North Wales. Our conference provides an opportunity for our healthcare professionals to network, and we hope this event can continue to grow in support with each conference. It’s been a great day of learning outside of the usual clinic pressures, and I’ve particularly enjoyed the passion and enthusiasm behind each discussion. It is clear that all of us are passionate about improving the future of CVD in Wales.

Rhodri Thomas, Head of BHF Cymru, added:

“With more than 400,000 people across Wales living with CVD, it is vital that we make calls for collaboration across the health sector and work together to improve outcomes for everyone affected by cardiovascular conditions. Events like our conference support our mission to give people in Wales a healthier heart for longer.”
