The Isle of Anglesey County Council has chosen Councillor Dafydd Rhys Thomas as its new Chair.
Cllr Thomas was first elected on to the county council in May 2013 as one of three county councillors serving the ward of Ynys Gybi.
Dafydd lives in Trearddur, which is almost in the centre of the ward. Now retired, he spent many years working at the Wylfa Nuclear Station.
After receiving support for his nomination during the Isle of Anglesey County Council's Annual Meeting, Cllr. Thomas said:
“Being elected as Chair of the County Council is a great honour and I would like to thank my fellow councillors for putting their faith in me.
“I will work to the best of my ability to be a good ambassador on behalf of the County Council, our Island and its residents. I'm really looking forward to my year in office and will be fulfilling my civic duties with great pride.”
Dafydd is married to Judith, and they have two children, Rhys and Gwen.
In his spare time, Dafydd likes to stay fit by biking and walking miles almost every day. He also likes to go to the gym and attend spinning classes.
Dafydd also enjoys volunteering with various organisations and travelling when he finds the time.
But, as a councillor, Dafydd is very proud to be able to work to help people in any way possible and takes great pleasure in doing so too.
Councillor Jackie Lewis, who represents the Talybolion ward, was elected Vice-Chair for 2026/27.
