This seminar will be a timely opportunity for policymakers and key stakeholders to come together to consider how to implement the recommendations of the independent Review of Affordable Housing Supply in Wales, with the Welsh Government targeting the delivery of 20,000 affordable homes in the current assembly term.
Delegates will examine how best to meet the challenges being considered by the Review – including the finance required to deliver affordable housing targets, improving partnerships between local authorities and housing associations to support delivery, and ensuring high standards in the affordable housing sector.
They will also examine wider issues for delivering housing across Wales – including improving the speed of planning decisions and how the Government can support SME housebuilders to further boost current housing supply.
The agenda also looks at innovation and sustainability in the sector, including the impact of the Construction Sector Deal and Clean Growth Grand Challenge.
Attendees will examine options for increasing the uptake of new technologies and processes to reduce costs and for facilitating production of smarter buildings with better whole-life performance, increasing the use of on-site energy generation and storage, and greater use of off-site manufacture.
Delegates will consider possible implications of the Renting Homes (Wales) Bill for tenants and landlords. We expect discussion on the developing rights and obligations of landlords and contract-holders, and simplifying the legal framework of the renting process – as well as increasing security for tenants through the prohibition of renewal and continuance of standard occupation contract payments.
Further sessions will consider the impact of Housing First pilot schemes, and will examine the implementation of the Rough Sleeping Strategy Action Plan 2018-2020 – including implementing localised strategies to tackle rough sleeping and supporting programmes of early intervention.
