National Grid Electricity Distribution's upgraded transformers and control systems at Aberdare substation will ensure homes and businesses continue to receive dependable power while supporting future demand and economic growth, it says.
Stuart Howe, Senior Project Engineer at National Grid Electricity Distribution, said:
“Our teams live and work in the communities we serve, and we’re proud to invest in the future of South Wales.
“By upgrading Aberdare substation, we’re making sure local people and businesses have a reliable electricity supply, now and for years to come.”
The upgrade delivers quieter operation, resolves historic voltage issues, and allows National Grid’s engineers to monitor and manage the substation more efficiently, responding quickly to any issues and keeping the network running smoothly.
The project sourced materials from businesses in Merthyr and Cwmbran and used local expertise for lifting operations.
The work is part of National Grid’s ongoing commitment to delivering secure, affordable, and clean energy for homes and businesses every day while driving regional economic growth, it added.
