A Cardiff-based team that supports one of the UK’s leading health and social care providers has raised more than £1,000 for a local charity after completing a series of fundraising events throughout 2018.
The team at Shaw healthcare’s headquarters in St Mellons set out to raise money for mental health charity Cardiff Mind, organising fundraising events like dress-down days and themed raffles throughout the year. Shaw healthcare runs more than 63 care homes and day care facilities across the UK, including specialist services for residents and service users living with dementia and other mental health illnesses.
In total, £1,088.90 was raised for the independent charity, which offers mental health support services for people and families in Cardiff, as well as raising awareness of mental health issues, especially in workplaces and schools.
“Mental health awareness is key to our work at Shaw,” said Louise Bendon, office manager at Shaw healthcare in St Mellons. “We have colleagues in our services across Wales, and the UK, who are working every day to support people who are suffering from mental health issues, so the team at head office felt this was a chance to do our bit.
“The great work of Mind echoes what we try to achieve across the UK, which is why we were so keen to support Cardiff Mind and raise funds for them throughout the year, in whatever way we could. We were really pleased to reach the £1,000 milestone and we hope it will have a positive impact on those who benefit from the services the charity offers across Wales’ capital.”

The charity intends to use this donation to provide free places on one of its suicide intervention skills courses. ASIST is a ‘first aid’ course that will equip anyone with the skills to intervene and save a life.
