Seven Welsh entrepreneurs have been named in the 2019 ‘Maserati 100’ list – which celebrates entrepreneurial excellence across the UK.

Now in its fifth year, the 2019 edition is published in partnership with The Sunday Times, and recognises innovation and the dedication of entrepreneurs from growing start-ups to established businesses. The Welsh entrepreneurs in this year’s esteemed list include:

Mandy Weston and Gareth Jones

Town Square Spaces

After launching Welsh ICE — one of the country’s biggest co-working centres, where new entrepreneurs can have a free desk — Weston, 53, and Jones, 34, teamed up to create Caerphilly-based Town Square Spaces, which nurtures the next generation of start-ups.

The annual list celebrates a diverse number of entrepreneurs; of all different ages and from all around the United Kingdom. The average age on the list is 42, with the youngest, Stephen Wilks from Seneca Learning, just 24 years old.

Chris Hancock – Creo Medical

Hancock, 51, came up with the idea for Creo Medical in his garage. The company, which is based in Chepstow, Monmouthshire, makes medical devices that use microwaves to carry out minimally invasive operations.

Steve Dimmick – Doopoll

Dimmick, 43, co-founded online polling company Doopoll in Cardiff in 2015. The start-up develops software that allows customers to create polls for use in marketing campaigns, live events and on social media.

Patrick Gee – Llanllyr Source

To diversify the income of his family’s beef and sheep farm in southwest Wales, Patrick Gee, 55, set up Llanllyr Source in 1999. The business started by bottling water and now sells high-end tonic water and other mixers.

Hannah and Sophie Pycroft

Spectrum

Sisters Hannah, 29, and Sophie, 31, launched their beauty accessories start-up from a garage in Barry in the Vale of Glamorgan, in 2014. Spectrum Collections is now available in Boots and sells Disney-themed make-up bags.

Mike Biscoe, General Manager, Maserati GB, said:

“I’m delighted that the Maserati 100 has become an established platform to celebrate British entrepreneurialism. Each year we are impressed by the quality of entrepreneurs recognised, and it’s great to continue to see such a diverse mix of talented individuals who are all doing something incredible in their chosen fields of business. Maserati was born from the dedication and hard-work of entrepreneurs Alfieri Maserati and his brothers, so we feel it’s only right that we continue to honour and support entrepreneurs today who are shaping the very future we will live in.”

Sunday Times Business Editor, Oliver Shah, said:

“We're proud once again to be able to shine a light on entrepreneurs who are making a difference to their communities and the customers they serve.”
