Airbnb Figures Ranks Wales the Number One Trending Region

Wales has been ranked the number one trending region in the UK with Airbnb guests, with 81% year on year growth (based on figures between June 2017 -June 2019).

With a warm welcome, beautiful National Parks, and vibrant communities – we can’t say that we’re surprised! On top of this, Cardiff is currently ranked the 11th highest trending city in the World with Airbnb guests.

So why do we think Cardiff has ranked so highly? Many reasons! For starters, Cardiff is fortunate to have one of  the highest seating capacity stadiums in Europe – attracting events such as the champions league final – Anthony Joshua – Monster Jam – and top artists such as Coldplay – Ed Sheeran – and of course the Six Nations Rugby!  Not only is the city centre a hub for sport and music, it’s filled with cultural and historical significance – from the Bay to the Castle, Cardiff is drenched in history. The capital city also boasts more green space per person than any other UK core city, with over 330 parks and gardens – adding another reason to make it the perfect location for a getaway.

With tourism booming,  Airbnb has thrived within the city.  It may be a shock to discover, but there is an immense shortage of hotel rooms available in Cardiff; if the Principality Stadium alone was filled to capacity, there would be almost sixteen times more people than hotel rooms available. It is no wonder then that Airbnb lettings and renting have dramatically risen with the influx of tourism – offering a home away from home to guests, and providing the opportunity for local residents to unlock the earning potential of their property.

Based on figures between July 2017 – July 2018, households in Wales earned a staggering £32 million in income through Airbnb. In the emergence of this growing market, Moginie James (the leading independent Estate and Lettings agency) have decided to utilise their skills and expertise to diversify – officially launching Hello Ted, the first and only Airbnb management company in Cardiff. Concentrating on allowing homeowners, vendors, and landlords the chance to reap the rewards of flexible letting, monetising void periods, and increasing earnings (to the tune of circa 30%+) – Hello Ted services offer a hassle free share of  the expanding Airbnb market.

The impact of Airbnb is also significant to surrounding communities, with Airbnb guests spending £123m in local Welsh communities last year. With the increase availability of top quality Airbnb accommodation, and the exciting calendar of events scheduled for Cardiff, it seems certain that Cardiff will continue to be a top attraction.
