Students from the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) have supported the Global Empowerment & Inclusion Summit at the United Nations in Geneva.
Organised by Bernie Davies, Founder of Mastering Diversity, the summit brought together global leaders, speakers, and changemakers to explore themes of culture, diplomacy, inclusion, leadership, and social impact. Hosted at the United Nations headquarters, the event provided an inspiring platform for discussions on building a more inclusive and collaborative future.
Representing the university were two students from the Travel and Tourism Management course, who played an active role in the media and event operations team. Their involvement included filming the event, conducting interviews with attendees and delegates, and supporting the wider logistical delivery of the summit.

Angelika Janos, a third year Travel and Tourism Management student, has developed a strong interest in media and event planning during her studies. Combining her passion for travel and tourism with photography and media production, Angelika welcomed the opportunity to gain first-hand experience at an international event.
Second-year student Tamara Crookes also embraced the opportunity, using the experience to further develop her confidence, communication skills, time management, and understanding of large-scale event operations.
Debbie Jenkins, Events and Tourism Lecturer at UWTSD, said:
“It was empowerment at its best for our students to experience first-hand an event of this calibre. Opportunities like this provide the ingredients for sustainable success by helping students build confidence, develop professional networks, and gain insight into their future career paths.”
The summit’s founder, Bernie Davies, believes that meaningful conversations must extend beyond conference rooms to inspire action and create lasting change. This philosophy aligns closely with UWTSD’s commitment to experiential learning, where students are encouraged to engage directly with industry, challenge their perspectives, and learn from global leaders and experts.
Bernie Davies said:
“Your leadership, encouragement, and willingness to create opportunities for students to engage in meaningful, real-world experiences continue to make a genuine impact. In a world where many speak about empowerment, UWTSD consistently demonstrates it through action.
“These opportunities are not simply about attending events. They are about exposure, confidence-building, leadership development, international engagement, and helping young people understand that their voices and skills have value on global platforms.”
She also praised the contribution of the students, adding:
“I would like to formally acknowledge and thank Tamara Crookes and Angelika Janos for their commitment in supporting the documentation of the summit and the wider logistical delivery of the event. Their professionalism, willingness to assist, and calm approach were greatly appreciated.”
