Cardiff Council’s partnership with the Solar Together scheme has so far seen 120 households installing solar panels.
The collective purchasing scheme is seeing the households generate well over half a megawatt (614 kW) of renewable power on their rooftops.
Alongside solar panels, 124 Cardiff homes have added battery storage, providing 839 kWh of energy storage capacity—helping families save on bills and make the most of their solar investment.
Cardiff Council Cabinet Member for Climate Change, Strategic Planning and Transport, Cllr Dan De’Ath, said:
“Solar Together offers a simple, supported route to solar energy and it’s empowering Cardiff residents to take real action on climate change, and reduce their energy costs.
“By coming together, we’re making solar power more affordable and accessible for everyone, while supporting local green jobs and skills. Every solar panel installed is a step towards a stronger, fairer, greener Cardiff—and I’m proud of our community’s enthusiasm and leadership.”
Cardiff residents have invested over £1 million in their homes through Solar Together, which forms part of Cardiff Council’s One Planet Cardiff response to climate change. A further 71 Cardiff households are already in the pipeline for solar and battery installations before January 2026.
Solar Together offers residents the chance to benefit from the power of collective purchasing, driving down costs and providing peace of mind through vetted installers and robust guarantees. The scheme has seen 40 locally-based installers employed on the project.
To maximise the power of collective purchasing, the Cardiff scheme formed part of a wider Cardiff Capital Region scheme. Uptake in the wider region has also been strong, with 216 solar arrays generating 1,071kW of green energy installed outside Cardiff so far.
