Cardiff Sixth Form College Previews £80m Landmark New Campus

Cardiff Sixth Form College, one of the world’s top-performing schools, is set to open a landmark new campus in Cardiff Bay in an £80 million investment.

The new campus, located opposite the Wales Millennium Centre, represents the next chapter in the college’s development, it said.

The purpose-built campus for up to 500 students has been designed to match the college’s internationally recognised academic excellence and exceptional, award-winning pastoral care, providing state-of-the-art facilities for both UK and international students.

Located in the historic setting of Merchant Place and Cory’s Building, with a brand new-build 18-storey accommodation tower a five-minute walk away, the development includes advanced science laboratories, an auditorium overlooking Cardiff Bay, modern teaching spaces, en-suite boarding accommodation, communal social spaces, a gym, basketball court, medical centre and multi-faith prayer facilities.

The opening comes as demand for places at Cardiff Sixth Form College continues to grow, with students travelling from across the UK and around the world to study at the college, which has built a global reputation for outstanding A-level results and university destinations.

The college was once again named number one in the UK for A-levels in 2025 with 94% A*-A grades, a clear 7% above the school in second place.

Tom Arrand, Principal of Cardiff Sixth Form College, said:

“This new campus represents far more than a new building. It is a statement of confidence in Cardiff, in Wales and in the future of international education here. Our students come from all over the world and we wanted to create an environment that reflects the ambition, excellence and opportunity that defines their experience at Cardiff Sixth Form College.

“The location is extraordinary. Students will be immersed in one of Europe’s most exciting waterfront districts, surrounded by culture, innovation and the unique character of Cardiff Bay. Combined with our academic and pastoral strengths, the new campus will provide an exceptional environment where young people can thrive and become the best versions of themselves.”

The £80 million investment is expected to bring significant benefits to the local area, further enhancing Cardiff Bay’s position as a hub for education, culture and international talent.

Tim Fish, CEO (UK/IRL/CH) Dukes Education, said:

“This significant investment in Cardiff Sixth Form College reflects our long-term commitment to our students, to Cardiff and to Wales. We believe that exceptional education deserves exceptional environments, and this campus sets a new benchmark for what students can expect from a world-class education.

“Cardiff Sixth Form College is already recognised globally for its academic outcomes and pastoral care. This investment ensures that its facilities now match that reputation, while supporting future growth and enabling more talented students from around the world to benefit from the outstanding education the college provides.”

Cardiff Sixth Form College, and its sister college located in Cambridge, has continued to build on its reputation as one of the UK’s leading independent schools, combining academic excellence with a strong emphasis on student wellbeing and personal development.

The new campus will welcome students from September 2026.
