Businesses, education providers and training organisations developing innovative approaches to skills and workforce development in Wales are to be showcased through a new monthly podcast series from Business News Wales.
Launching as part of the new Business News Wales Skills & Workforce media channel, the series will shine a light on the employers, colleges, universities, apprenticeship providers and training specialists developing new approaches to helping people gain the skills they need and supporting businesses to build stronger workforces.
The series will also explore how innovation in education, training and workforce development could contribute to wider economic opportunities, particularly in industries facing recruitment challenges, changing skills requirements and growing pressure to improve productivity.
The ambition is to discover and champion the organisations and individuals making a practical difference to skills development in Wales, giving them an opportunity to share their experiences, showcase successful initiatives and explain how their approaches could benefit other employers and communities.
From innovative apprenticeship programmes and employer-led training partnerships to digital learning, workforce upskilling and new approaches to careers education, the podcast will focus on initiatives with practical applications and the potential to address real workforce challenges.
Each monthly episode will introduce organisations and individuals working to improve skills development, exploring the thinking behind their initiatives, the challenges they are seeking to address and the opportunities their work could create.
Rather than simply discussing skills shortages or education policy, the series will examine what is happening on the ground, how different approaches are being delivered and where they could offer lessons for other businesses, education providers and training organisations.
A particular focus will be placed on strengthening the relationship between employers and education, highlighting partnerships that are helping training provision respond more effectively to the changing needs of Welsh industry.
The podcast will also explore opportunities to support people already in employment, recognising the growing importance of lifelong learning, retraining and professional development as businesses adapt to new technologies and economic conditions.
The podcasts will be distributed through Spotify, Apple Podcasts and more than 50 other podcast platforms, helping Welsh skills and training organisations reach wider audiences while introducing their expertise and initiatives to potential employers, learners, collaborators and industry partners.
Business News Wales is particularly interested in discovering smaller training providers, innovative employers, community-based skills initiatives, apprenticeship programmes and education partnerships whose work may not yet have received widespread attention but could offer valuable lessons for workforce development across Wales.
The series will complement the work of the Business News Wales Skills & Workforce Editorial Board, established through INFORM Wales to examine the challenges facing workforce development and identify opportunities to strengthen the relationship between education, industry and economic growth.
Together, the podcast and dedicated media channel will provide a continuing platform for sharing expertise, celebrating innovation and raising awareness of the organisations helping to develop Wales’ future workforce.
Welsh employers, colleges, universities, apprenticeship providers, training organisations and workforce development specialists with innovative initiatives or successful approaches to skills development are encouraged to contact Business News Wales about being featured in the new podcast series.
