Returning Rhyl Airshow Awarded ‘Best Event of the Year’ Tourism Award

Rhyl Airshow which returned this year after a two year hiatus, was awarded ‘Best Event of the Year’ at the recent 2022 Go North Wales Tourism Awards, in a glittering ceremony held in Llandudno.

The award recognised an event that had ‘created economic impact and enhanced the profile of the town where it was held’.

A hugely popular event, the Airshow, is organised and delivered by a small in-house events team at Denbighshire Leisure Ltd, and attracts thousands of visitors to Rhyl each year, from true air enthusiasts, to those who come to enjoy the atmosphere and beachfront setting, and everyone in between.  The team, supported by an army of volunteers, worked incredibly hard to pull together two days of exciting action packed displays.

Visitors this year were thrilled to see the Red Arrows, who headlined the Show with stunning displays on both days, a first time for Rhyl.  Also topping the bill was the Eurofighter Typhoon and a Lancaster bomber, alongside a number of ground based assets.  This year’s attendance was estimated to be around 100,000 on both days, which will have undoubtedly benefitted many businesses throughout the town and surrounding area.

This year Denbighshire Leisure Ltd extended the reach of the Airshow, by hosting corporate packages at their flagship 1891 Restaurant with spectacular views of the show that sold out, and an Ibiza style Airshow after-party on the Terrace, which offered live music, food, and cocktails, thereby keeping the Promenade and Rhyl itself busy well into the night.

Jamie Groves, Managing Director said

“Delivering a successful large scale event is always an achievement, but returning from a pandemic situation meant the team needed to go the extra mile to deliver a two day spectacular, not only for the customers but for the town itself.  We are very proud of the team’s achievements, and would also like to thank all of the organisations involved, especially Denbighshire County Council and Rhyl Town Council, without whose generous contribution and support, the event could not go ahead”
