A site manager and his team at a new homes scheme which forms part of the Glan Llyn project near Newport are celebrating winning an award.
Richard Hughes, who leads the St Modwen Homes development located off Baldwin Drive, has picked up his first National House Building Council accolade via the industry body’s Pride in the Job Awards 2026.
Richard's award win will lead him to the next stage of judging with the NHBC, moving onto the Seal of Excellence and Regional Award event later this year, competing against his peers in the industry for the top prizes in site management.
Richard, from Maesycwmmer, said:
“I’m very proud to have won my first NHBC Pride in the Job award, which is acknowledgement of the dedication not only by myself but all the team at Glan Llyn who work every day to achieve the highest standards.
“I’d like to thank all the trades and everyone on site for buying into the culture we set here of quality workmanship and attention to detail. This award is very much a team effort and I’m looking forward to representing all of us at the regional awards night later in the year.”

Richard joined St Modwen Homes in September 2025 and has led the Glan Llyn project ever since, as senior site manager.
Glan Llyn is the flagship housing scheme for St Modwen Homes which has been under construction for several years, resulting in hundreds of properties to be built under the St Modwen brand.
James Mulcahy, managing director for St Modwen Homes, said:
“We are very proud of Richard, his team and the entire Glan Llyn project, which sets the standard for St Modwen Homes and remains a key part of our business in Wales.
“This award is testament to Richard’s ability and commitment to his role. We wish him the very best of luck for the Seal of Excellence and Regional Award categories, while we congratulate him on his inaugural Quality Award.”
