National Grid Investing in Blaenavon’s Electricity Network to Support Future Growth

National Grid Electricity Distribution is upgrading Blaenavon's electricity network to support future growth and increasing demand for electricity across the town.

The project includes the installation of around 6.5 kilometres of new underground cable and upgrades to substations and other network equipment across the town. The improvements will strengthen the network, improve reliability and help support future development in the area.

Shaun Dumbill, Operations Manager at National Grid Electricity Distribution, said:

“We're upgrading the electricity network in Blaenavon to help make sure it is ready to support the town's future growth. By increasing capacity, we're helping create the conditions for new homes, businesses and low-carbon technologies to connect and thrive.

“We know this work can cause some disruption and we'd like to thank the community for its understanding while we deliver these improvements.”

Work is being carried out in phases across Blaenavon to help minimise disruption. Some activities are taking place on local roads and traffic management may be needed in certain locations while the works are underway. Customers and businesses affected by individual phases of the project are being given advance notice, and access to properties will be maintained throughout.

Work is expected to continue into 2027, with National Grid continuing to work closely with the local authority and contractors to keep the community informed as the project progresses.
