The national airport for Wales has rounded off its busiest month of summer travel, with over 216,000 passengers having jetted off in August.

The busiest day of travel so far this year was Tuesday 13th August 2019.

Over the last 12 months, Cardiff Airport has welcomed more than 1.662 million passengers. This continuing growth represents a 7% increase for the rolling year*.

With airlines like TUI and Thomas Cook offering excellent holiday deals to sunny destinations, Flybe offering a wealth of routes across the UK and Ireland, plus KLM flying customers across the world with a one stop connection at Amsterdam Schiphol, this summer has been the busiest in more than a decade.

KLM operates up to three flights every day from Cardiff to its hub in the Netherlands, where there are ample opportunities for customers to travel across the world with KLM and airlines that offer a codeshare booking option. The flight to Amsterdam Schiphol takes, on average, less than one hour and is a relaxing start to a long haul journey, taking away the hassle of having to make a long journey by road to fly from London airports.

5* airline Qatar Airways, which offers a daily, direct service to its hub in Doha has also welcomed customers seeking far-flung travel to destinations like Oman, Vietnam, Thailand and Bali.

The multi award-winning airline – named ‘Best Airline of the Year’ for a record fifth time in 2019 by Skytrax World Airline Awards and the ‘World’s Top 10 Airline’ and ‘World’s Best Business Class’ in the TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Airline Awards – has added more flights between Wales and Qatar in October, extending the Summer 2019 daily service and has also added more flights for May next year meaning its 2020 summer season will revert to a 6 x weekly  service sooner, creating more opportunities for customers to fly from Cardiff to the world or travel to the UK using Cardiff as a gateway.

Deb Bowen Rees, CEO of Cardiff Airport, said:

“It has been another very busy month and it’s been fantastic to welcome customers jetting off for some summer sun, and to also extend a warm, Welsh welcome to international visitors using Cardiff as their gateway to the UK.

September is shaping up to be an equally busy month, with many of our customers booking late deals, so we recommend that you book parking in advance to get the best deal and arrive at the Airport in plenty of time to check in and enjoy our facilities before departure.”
