Welsh businesses will have the opportunity to hear from a Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) expert on how to turn artificial intelligence (AI) projects into practical business value through a free online industry talk.
The session, taking place on Monday 16 November 2026, from 2.30pm to 3.45pm, will feature George Westerman, Senior Lecturer at MIT Sloan School of Management and Digital Fellow at the MIT Initiative on the Digital Economy.
Delivered as part of the fully funded AI Awareness and Adoption Programme through Business Wales, the event will explore why some organisations successfully adopt AI while others struggle to move beyond initial trials.
Drawing on research and business case studies, Westerman will introduce a six-question framework designed to help leadership teams assess their approach to AI adoption and identify the organisational changes needed to achieve long-term value.
The talk will feature examples from businesses including Takeda, Ferrovial, HCA Healthcare, DBS Bank and Dentsu Creative, examining how organisations have approached digital transformation and the challenges involved in scaling AI.
The session will explore:
- Why AI pilot projects can stall and how businesses can address common barriers
- A six-question framework for assessing AI strategy and implementation
- Building employee engagement and confidence in AI adoption
- The role of technology, governance and organisational culture in scaling AI
- Managing changes to workplace roles and responsibilities
- Practical lessons from organisations implementing AI at scale
The event forms part of the Industry Tech Talks series, with Welsh SMEs joining a hybrid audience live from MIT’s Industrial Liaison Program.
A live question-and-answer session will also give participants the opportunity to put questions directly to George Westerman.
The webinar is aimed at Welsh SME owners, founders and managers, whether they are beginning to explore AI or looking to progress existing projects.
No technical background is required, and attendance is free, with funding provided by the Welsh Government through Business Wales.
