As part of a new interview series, Matt Hyde, Director of Recruit121 and FinTech Awards Wales, talks to a whole host of professionals in and around Wales’ thriving FinTech Sector.

This week Matt caught up with Aline Moreira Gonzaga, General Manager at Clockwise Offices Cardiff.

In my role as General Manager at Clockwise, I oversee the overall performance of space and I'm dedicated to providing a seamless and satisfying experience for our members, from their initial contact to their long-term tenancy. Clockwise’s main focus is to create a sustainable and productive environment that enable individuals, companies, and communities to flourish.

2. Why did Clockwise choose to sponsor the Fintech Start-up of the year category at the Fintech Awards Wales 2024?

By sponsoring the Fintech Start-up of the Year category, we aim to recognise and support innovative startups that are driving growth and innovation within the industry. We believe these companies have the potential to make a significant impact on the global fintech landscape. Our goal is to help these startups succeed by providing them with the resources, visibility, and support they need to scale their businesses and achieve their objectives.

Additionally, we actively participate in local fintech initiatives and events, connecting our members with industry leaders and fostering a sense of community.

4. What does it mean to you personally to see the rise of Fintech in Wales, and how do you feel about Clockwise involvement in this growth?

As a General Manager at Clockwise, I'm incredibly excited to witness the growth of the fintech sector in Wales. It's a testament to the region's entrepreneurial spirit, talent pool, and supportive ecosystem. Clockwise's involvement in this growth is personally rewarding. We've had the opportunity to work with some truly innovative and inspiring fintech startups, providing them with the resources and support they need to succeed.

5. How do you see the Fintech start-up landscape evolving over the next few years, and how is Clockwise preparing for these changes?

I believe the fintech start-up landscape will continue to evolve rapidly over the next few years, driven by technological advancements and changing consumer behaviour. Clockwise is preparing for these changes by staying updated on industry trends and building partnerships to offer a wider range of services to our members.

6. How important is mentorship and networking for Fintech start-ups, and how does Clockwise facilitate these connections?

Mentorship and networking are crucial for the success of fintech startups. At Clockwise, we recognise this importance and actively facilitate these connections. We offer a comprehensive program of events designed to support our members' growth and foster a vibrant community.

Through these events, our members can gain valuable insights from industry mentors, build relationships with potential investors and partners, and connect with fellow entrepreneurs. Whether it's a workshop on the latest fintech trends, a networking mixer, or a wellness session, our goal is to create an environment where startups can thrive.

8. What excites you personally about working with Fintech start-ups?

I'm personally excited about working with fintech startups because of their innovative spirit, disruptive potential, and the opportunity to be part of something groundbreaking.

They usually are at the forefront of technological advancements, challenging traditional ways of doing business and creating new solutions to real-world problems.

9. Can you share any memorable experiences or success stories related to Fintech start-ups that have inspired you?

Absolutely! I've had the privilege of working with a few inspiring fintech startups during my time at Clockwise. They usually start with a small team and a big vision. We provided them with a flexible workspace, and networking opportunities. Over time, we've seen them grow rapidly, secure significant funding, and expand their operations. It's been incredibly rewarding to witness their success and see them achieve their dreams.

10. What does it mean to you and your team at Clockwise to support the next generation of Fintech innovators?

Supporting the next generation of Fintech innovators is an opportunity to contribute to the future of the industry and to make a positive impact on society. We strive to create a supportive and inspiring environment and seeing that we have played a role in their journey is a source of great satisfaction for both me and my team. We not only celebrate their achievements but also provide support in the most difficult stages.

11. Finally favourite book you have read and why

My favourite book is “The Midnight Library” by Matt Haig. It tells the story of Nora Seed, a woman contemplating suicide who finds herself in a celestial library where she can explore alternative versions of her life. The book explores themes of regret, purpose, and the fear of the unknown. I find the idea of a library where one can explore infinite possibilities is intriguing and inspiring. This book offers a message of hope and the importance of finding meaning in life.
