Mallows Family Distillery has launched a range of flavoured rums to help retailers take advantage of the fast-growing premium rum market.

The newly created distillery is bringing its very first spirit to the market with The Rummers. The rum brand was developed in partnership with Dutch Rum specialist Scheer.

The actual word Rummer’s is rumoured to be where the word Rum originated. Sailors were distilling alcohol in the Caribbean and then drinking the liquid out of an ornamental glass – this glass was called a Rummer.

Annual rum sales in Britain topped £1 billion for the first time in 2018, with over 1 billion litres consumed, and sales of flavoured and spiced rum are set to grow by 35% in 12 months, according to the Wine & Spirit Trade Association Market Report.

The Rummers offers five flavours: golden rum, banana, citrus and sea salt, pineapple and spiced rum. The whole range is available in 70cl with ABV ranging from 35% to 40%.

Commenting on the launch Andy Mallows, co-owner of Mallows Family Distillery, said:

“The premium rum market continues to grow in the UK and internationally. Consumers are always on the hunt for new, innovative flavours, and we’ve developed a range that provides a rum for every palate. The rum can be drunk straight or with a mixer and provides a great base for cocktails. We’ve put a lifetime of experience and a passion for the spirits business into the new range.”

Father and son team Andy and Rhys Mallows opened a £5m purpose-built distillery and bottling plant in South Wales. The 30,000-square-foot fully bonded distillery undertakes contract bottling for international brands and produces own-label spirits.

The facility in Wales can produce 5cl to 3-litre bottles, product lines set to be distributed to global locations.

Rhys Mallows said:

“We are a one-stop for outsourced production as we can manage label designs, liquid creation, supply chain, production and storage, which saves our customers time and money.”

The rum is available in France and Poland through Auchan and Carrefour. It is currently listed in the UK and growing its On and Off-trade presence. It will be available through selected wholesalers with 70cl bottle is priced at £27.99.
