Amid all the panic and chaos surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic, there are some heart-warming and inspirational stories.

Dave Hodges, 57, is a very highly regarded, multi award winning Site Manager at Llanmoor Homes, who’s worked for the company for 14 years. His wife Jo, 42, has shaved her head to raise funds for Macmillan’s ‘Brave the Shave’. Macmillan is a cancer support charity who provide physical, emotional and financial support to help those suffering with cancer live life as fully as they can.

Dave and Jo, who’ve been together for just over 19 years, wanted to do their bit to help support their community and charities throughout this uncertain time. As Jo has MS, although not extremely vulnerable to coronavirus, she couldn’t volunteer to help the vulnerable or elderly, so instead she suggested taking part in the charity’s ‘Brave the Shave’.

Jo decided to get involved after several personal experiences with Macmillan cancer charity, and she and Dave wanted to do their bit to help during the covid-19 outbreak.

Jo said,

“we heard that certain Cancer treatments are being delayed, postponed or cancelled and we thought that as a consequence of this, there would be an even greater call on the services of Macmillan.”

Jo valiantly shaved her head live on Facebook on Sunday 29th March with husband Dave’s support. Dave said, “initially we both felt a little worried; I think I was more worried than Jo was! But after approximately 20 minutes of cutting and collecting as much hair as we could for donating, we were ready for the clippers. Then it was a matter of only minutes and Jo was sporting a swanky grade 0 buzz cut!”

He added,

“during our live broadcast the total had been growing and passed the £300 target. We both felt extremely proud that we had been able to do something to raise money for charity during this uncertain time.”

The fundraising target was £300 but now the total raised so far is just over an impressive £1700.

Dave remarked,

“as the donations kept coming in, people were phoning to say that they would donate offline. Friends in other countries who weren’t able to donate without a British postcode were pledging to give money to their local food banks or Cancer charities; we both wondered why we had felt so nervous!”.
