Howden’s Annual Golf Day Raises Funds for Children’s Charity

Howden's South Wales Commercial team has raised £7,500 at its golf day for charity partner Wooden Spoon.

The insurance broker welcomed 100 guests at Machynys golf club in Llanelli to raise funds for the children's charity.

Guests had the chance to meet several rugby legends at the event including former British & Irish Lion and Wales player and current Howden business executive, Dafydd James. Dafydd is also a Wooden Spoon Ambassador.

The day began with a breakfast and golf briefing before an 18-hole competition, followed by dinner, prize awarding, and a Q&A with Dafydd.

Wooden Spoon is the children's charity of rugby, funding life-changing projects for children and young people with disabilities or facing disadvantage across the UK and Ireland.

By harnessing the power of the rugby community, it provides grants for sensory rooms, playgrounds, and specialist equipment and has supported over two million young people since 1983.

Gary Stevens, Regional Managing Director – Commercial (Wales), Howden, said:

“We are proud to have hosted such a successful golf day once again. This is a wonderful event with a great opportunity to raise vital funds for some truly deserving causes.

“Partnering with Wooden Spoon is a natural fit. Their work harnesses the spirit of rugby to support children and young people facing disadvantage, and we're delighted to play a role in supporting that mission.

“Thank you to everyone who supported our event whether through attendance or donations, and of course to Dafydd and Adrian for leading the event and ensuring everyone was well looked after.”

Andy Jones, Head of Corporate Partnerships, Wooden Spoon, said:

“We are truly honoured to have been a charity partner at the Howden South Wales Golf.

“Howden's passion for rugby and community perfectly aligns with Wooden Spoon's mission, and we are incredibly proud to have the support of Howden as we continue using rugby to change young lives for the better.”

Howden has also recently announced a new three-year kit sponsorship with Wooden Spoon, in partnership with Canterbury. This collaboration introduces a new official playing kit that will be worn by all Wooden Spoon Vets (Over-35s) and Open XV representative teams over the next three years.

Howden is also a headline partner for both Melrose Sevens and The British & Irish Lions.
