Since 1993, Dudley’s Aluminium has offered clients full in-house design and production facilities and has completed many successful and prestigious projects within the education, health, commercial, retail and defense sector throughout the UK and Channel Islands.

Based in Cardiff, the company is a leading Welsh aluminium fabricator and installer of curtain walling, windows, doors, and other specialist products, and is also a member of Manufacturing Wales.

Business News Wales chats to Technical Director of Dudley’s Aluminium, Gary Smythe about the importance of being green.

Gary stresses its importance and said:

“Our approach to being greener, until the current time, was fairly limited. We monitor and control our waste and make the most of recycling materials. We are fortunate that our business makes the most of aluminium extrusion and glass, so those are recyclable.”

Gary says that Dudley’s Aluminum’s approach to green-ness is “more by accident than by direct involvement.”

In recent years, Dudley’s Aluminium have significantly developed and expanded to provide a complete design, manufacture, and installation service for the building envelope.

Working closely with architects and contractors, this overall service includes project analysis, structural assessments, design proposals, provision of samples and extended warranties to ensure the façade meets the required aesthetic, cost, programme and performance requirements.

Dudley’s Aluminium have a range of experience in the education, health, commercial, retail and defence sectors with projects undertaken up to a value of £7 million.

They have successfully completed prestigious curtain wall and façade projects in all of the above sectors, including the new Central Square developments in Cardiff which house the new BBC Headquarters and new HMRC headquarters amongst others. We work from project concept through to completion, with a key emphasis placed on customer satisfaction.

The company say that they are looking to grow steadily and are keen to look at other avenues to improve the business going forward, including the possibility of branching into other areas and utilising the PassivHaus requirements that will become more prevalent, alongside other exciting ideas.

In recent years, Dudley’s Aluminium have invested in a new storage facility at their premises to optimize their factory floor plan as well as improve efficiency and capability. Alongside this they have also invested in machinery, including additional CNC machines & saws, to improve productivity.

Gary also stressed their desire to invest in and attract new talent:

We are very keen to entice new blood into the business through apprenticeships and trainee positions. We want to ensure we continue to grow and improve, and developing the right personnel will be key.
