Edenstone Group Targets £100m Turnover Following Tai Derw Acquisition

Edenstone Group has revealed ambitious growth plans following the acquisition of Tai Derw Developments Ltd as it targets £100 million turnover by 2028.

The deal, agreed at the end of May, follows talks between Edenstone Group executive chairman Martin Taylor and Tai Derw managing director Martin Smith about opportunities for the two housing developers. Both companies build a combination of private and affordable homes and have similar business models.

Acquiring Tai Derw expands Magor-headquartered Edenstone's geographic footprint, while supporting housing delivery and employment opportunities.

Edenstone Group executive chairman Martin Taylor said:

“The acquisition of Tai Derw is an important milestone in the continued growth of Edenstone Group. It brings together two businesses with complementary strengths, shared values and a common approach to delivering high-quality homes.

“Tai Derw brings additional expertise, land opportunities and regional presence, all of which will strengthen our business and support our ambition to build a larger, more resilient organisation for the future. The acquisition also forms an important part of our new five-year strategy, which is focused on sustainable and profitable growth. Edenstone has recorded a 40% increase in turnover to £63 million for the year to April 2026, up from £45 million in 2025, and generated profit before tax of £2 million. We see a clear opportunity to grow turnover beyond £100 million over the coming years.”

Edenstone currently employs around 120 people. It's anticipated that as the combined business grows, additional jobs will be created, with an estimated workforce of 180 to 200 people by the time it reaches £100 million turnover.

Geographically, the acquisition extends Edenstone's presence in Wales from existing development in Llanelli to Pembrokeshire. The business is also targeting further expansion of operations across South West England.

In addition to broadening its regional reach, the acquisition will deliver benefits across the wider business, including enhanced commercial buying power, shared experience and reputation with partners and stakeholders.

Tai Derw managing director Martin Smith has 42 years' experience in the commercial, sub-contracting and residential sectors, working primarily across South Wales, the West Midlands and South West of England.

Martin Smith added:

“Tai Derw has built a strong reputation for identifying and progressing strategic land opportunities, creating a robust development pipeline for the future. We have a number of projects due to commence over the next 12 to 24 months, including a 196-home development in Maesteg, where work will start in the coming weeks. We're looking forward to taking this and other sites forward as part of Edenstone Group.”

Edenstone Group legal director Helen Thomas was responsible for bringing the deal together quickly.

Following the acquisition, Tai Derw will retain its name and Treforest office and operate under the auspices of the Edenstone Group.

The Group includes a private housing operation and Partnerships arm, delivering new homes for Registered Housing providers and the Private Rented Sector.
