Creation Café Reopens in Holyhead Library as Creative Community Hub

A new partnership between Anglesey County Council and Menter Môn has seen a special resource re-open in Holyhead town.

The ‘Ffiws – Creation Café’ is a ‘coffee shop’ with a difference at Holyhead Library, located in the Market Hall building on Stanley Street.

The new community resource was opened by Anglesey Council’s Education Portfolio Holder, Councillor Dafydd Roberts.

The café aims to be a creative space for people of all ages who want to make, learn new skills, and have fun. A variety of workshops will be starting soon.

The equipment has been provided through Cylchol, a Menter Môn programme, which is supported by the county council and the Welsh Government’s Circular Economy Fund to promote the circular economy. This is achieved by supporting Ffiws makerspaces and hosting events and workshops which reduce, reuse and recycle waste.

A wide range of equipment is available to use in Holyhead, including:

  • 3D Printer
  • Laser Printer/Cutter
  • Vinyl Cutter
  • Mug Press
  • Sewing and Embroidery Machines
  • Heat Press

Bethan Hughes-Jones, Anglesey Council Library Service Digital Leader, said:

“This new Ffiws – Creation Café is an excellent partnership on many levels. It provides opportunities for individuals, groups, businesses, and education establishments to use the equipment and space for a small fee to create and develop ideas without having to buy expensive equipment.”

She added:

“Mencap Môn will also use the café to pilot a hospitality training/mentoring scheme with some of their clients. Mencap will lead the ‘Café’ element and many of their users will be given the opportunity to receive training and develop skills which may provide a route for them into paid employment.”

Lynsey Hackett has been appointed Creation Café Co-ordinator, and she has many years of experience in graphic design.

Lynsey has already held her first session with a group supported by the council’s Adults Services team. The Creation Café will also provide a home for the Cybi Seniors Club who will meet there on a weekly basis.

The previous Ffiws was located in a computer shop in the town which closed last year.

The café in Holyhead Library is the latest community makerspace to open as part of the Ffiws scheme, which is also available in Gwynedd and Conwy.
