Business Leaders Urged to Help Shape the Next Chapter of Pride of Place in Neath Port Talbot

Business in the Community (BITC) is calling on businesses across Wales to play a greater role in tackling some of the long-term challenges facing communities, as it showcases the impact of its Pride of Place programme.

The call comes as business, government and community leaders come together to celebrate the partnerships already making a difference through Pride of Place and look ahead to the next phase of the programme across Wales.

The event will showcase successful collaboration in Newport and Rhondda Cynon Taf, set out future ambitions, and mark the launch of the new Neath Port Talbot Pride of Place Board, chaired by Neath born Dr Debra Williams.

Speaking to Business News Wales, Dr Williams said:

“Being born and bred in Neath, I was delighted to be asked to Chair the new Neath Port Talbot Pride of Place Board.

“Business in the Community has spoken to more than 50 stakeholders and community groups, and it is clear that many communities face deeply entrenched challenges, including rising poverty, affordable housing pressures, low educational attainment, economic inactivity and a voluntary sector under enormous pressure.

“At the same time, there is potentially transformational investment coming into the area, from floating offshore wind to the Global Centre for Rail Excellence and other major opportunities.

“My ambition as Chair is to be able to look back and point to tangible differences in people’s lives and in our communities. That is why I am putting out a clear call to the business community to get involved and join companies such as The Crown Estate, Deloitte and Principality Building Society in helping to shape this next chapter of Neath Port Talbot’s story.”

Rather than focusing solely on financial contributions, the programme encourages businesses to contribute their skills, expertise, networks and leadership, helping communities build the capacity and relationships needed to deliver lasting change.

The approach is based on understanding local priorities and bringing together the organisations best placed to address them, with residents and community leaders helping to identify both the challenges and opportunities.

BITC is now encouraging more businesses across Wales to engage with Pride of Place and consider how their expertise and resources could contribute to the next phase of activity.
