Landsker Business Solutions Ltd., a Whitland based Business Consultancy is celebrating 20 years supporting businesses throughout Wales.
In a time where many businesses have faced some of their biggest hardships, Landsker has not only managed to remain successful but has also supported hundreds of businesses to stay afloat and prosper by providing a comprehensive range of business support, including raising finance, developing marketing strategies, business planning, HR and diversification.
Back in the late nineties Landsker Managing Director Jeremy Bowen Rees returned to Wales following a successful career in London. The internet had brought big opportunities for rural business owners and created a landscape for business consultants to work effectively in supporting rural areas. These consultants now had a good understanding of big business and rural communities enabling them to support rural business owners to expand and explore the new opportunities presented.
In its infancy Landsker was known as Jeremy Rees and Associates, a consultancy working and travelling throughout the UK and overseas working in Change Management and Organisation Development. However, in 2001 everything changed following the tragic incident at the World Trade Centre, New York. This precipitated major changes in the financial services sector resulting in the loss of four contracts overnight. Landsker was forced to change tactics and reinvent itself by looking for work in Wales.
‘At this point in our journey as a business things were looking scary, everything changed overnight, but it was the jump start we needed to begin making the most of what was right here on our doorstep.’ said Jeremy Bowen Rees, Managing Director. ‘After 2 years of contracting to a third party we started to contract directly to Welsh Government and cut out the middleman allowing us to directly support and positively impact SMEs throughout Wales.’
A pivotal year for Landsker, 2005 brought significant changes, the first of which was employing their first employee, David Selwyn, who has since gone on to become Technical Director at Landsker Business Solutions Ltd.
David Selwyn, Technical Director said,
‘Having had the opportunity to be with Landsker from the start, it has been a very exciting journey watching the business grow. Over the years I have been able to work closely with hundreds of businesses and seeing how each has gone from strength to strength has made me feel really proud of what we have been able to achieve.’
A second key change was the decision to establish the business centre at Llwynybrain, Whitland. The business centre opened in 2006 and is now home to Landsker’s twelve members of staff, as well as several associates and tenants.
Since, Landsker has become one of, if not the leading independent consultancy in Wales providing support to existing and new start businesses and is accredited on more Welsh Government and other funded programmes than any other private business consultancy in Wales. Landsker has assisted over 2,500 businesses, accessed over £130 million in client funding, helped launch 550+ new businesses and contributed to the creation of nearly 5,000 jobs in Wales.
