Acuity Law with Purpose, the new joint venture between Acuity Law and Purpose Law, celebrated its official launch by hosting a high-level roundtable on the future of Wales’ green economy.

Held at the firm’s Cardiff Bay headquarters, the “Powering Wales: The Future of Energy and Sustainability” event brought together senior figures from industry, academia, policy and the third sector to explore how Wales can position itself as a global leader in sustainable energy innovation.

In partnership with Chambers Wales South East, South West and Mid, the roundtable focused on the strategic actions needed to accelerate Wales' transition to a low-carbon economy. Attendees, including interim Chamber CEO Gus Williams, examined how landmark projects such as the Swansea Bay renewable energy development, integrating tidal power, battery manufacturing, EV infrastructure and private energy networks, can serve as blueprints for scalable, exportable green energy ecosystems.

The discussion highlighted that private energy networks, place-based innovation clusters, and modular infrastructure are essential to overcoming existing grid constraints and decarbonising energy-intensive sectors.

However, participants also pointed to regulatory fragmentation and a lack of policy cohesion between the Welsh and UK Governments as key barriers to progress. Clear leadership, streamlined regulation and investor certainty were cited as critical enablers for Wales to realise its green potential.

Speakers emphasised the importance of embedding community ownership in renewable projects, drawing on successful models from Scotland. By including shared ownership structures and local benefit schemes at the outset, energy developments can gain stronger public support and deliver wider social and economic returns. Addressing the skills gap in the green economy was also a key theme, with calls for urgent collaboration between government, industry and education providers to support a just transition.

Tessa Laws, Consultant Partner at Acuity Law with Purpose, said:

“Our launch event has reinforced what we already knew: Wales has the ideas, the talent and the potential to lead the green revolution. What’s needed now is coordinated action.

Acuity Law with Purpose exists to help bridge that gap, aligning legal, commercial and policy expertise to help clients move from ambition to delivery in the global green economy.”

Acuity Law with Purpose is a joint venture between Acuity Law and Purpose Law dedicated to advancing sustainable infrastructure and clean energy investment across the UK, Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East.
