Port of Milford Haven Invests in Communities and Young People

Almost half a million pounds were invested into community initiatives in Pembrokeshire by the Port of Milford Haven in 2025.

The Port said it highlights another year of meaningful commitment to strengthening communities, empowering and building confidence in young people, enhancing water safety, and supporting environmental resilience across the county.

The Port’s community support is focused on three key themes:

  • A safe, inclusive and enjoyable Waterway
  • A skilled and confident community, with a particular focus on young people (previously called building a vibrant and prosperous community)
  • A sustainable and resilient environment

The Port supported a wide range of initiatives. Water safety projects delivered with Windswept, Paddle West, and Blue Horizons CIC helped more people access the Waterway safely, including increasing skills and providing boat trips that enable individuals of all abilities and backgrounds to get on the water. The Port also supported Tenby Surf Life Saving Club and Porthmawr Surf Life Saving Club, providing vital training and safety equipment to ensure volunteers can continue their lifesaving work with confidence.

Long‑standing partnerships remained a cornerstone of the Port’s community investment. Continued collaboration with Milford Youth Matters supported a range of initiatives, including Under the Bridge and the Winter Warmers scheme, providing a safe, warm space for young people during the colder months. Support for Megan’s Starr Foundation funded more than 300 hours of counselling for young people, helping to improve mental health and wellbeing across the community.

Recognising the importance of arts and learning, the Port also worked closely with Pembrokeshire County Council and Milford Haven Town Council to ensure the library resource remained open. Support also continued for the Torch Theatre in delivering opportunities for young people outside traditional academic or sporting disciplines, even winning an award in 2025. And, in partnership with the SPARC Alliance, support helped empower young women to explore careers in STEM, with 172 girls enrolled in the programme.

From an environmental perspective, the Port is a longstanding supporter of Pembrokeshire Marine SAC Officer position, recognising the importance of sharing this special environment with communities. This is reinforced by the Port’s role with the Milford Haven Waterway Environment Surveillance Group who have been monitoring the Waterway’s habitats and wildlife for over 30 years. And the Port has been inspiring the next generation through Cymbrogi Futures to deliver the Tomorrow’s Changemakers Hackathon programme for schools across Pembrokeshire.

Anna Malloy, Communications and Marketing Director at the Port of Milford Haven, said:

“Our community investments are some of the most rewarding ways we support people across Pembrokeshire.

“Every year we see incredible dedication from local groups working to make our communities safer, more inclusive, and more inspiring, especially for young people. We are particularly proud that in 2026 the fund will be focusing further on supporting projects that help young people gain skills and grow in confidence.

“Our investment in people today helps create a stronger, more inclusive and ambitious generation tomorrow.”
