Partnerships Developer Supports in Cardiff Careers Event

Lovell and Advanced Carpentry Solutions employees at the Eastern High careers event

Eastern High Community Campus hosted the event consisting of a careers carousel and mock interviews to help the students practice interview skills and networking, and to show them all the different career options available to them.

Meriel Gough, Lovell Social Value Manager, and Martin Thomas, Lovell Regional Training Manager, attended the event along with Jamie Langdon, Construction Manager at Advanced Carpentry Solutions and an apprentice at Advanced Carpentry Solutions, Harvey Hughs.

Over the course of the event, Jamie shared his insights into the carpentry industry and the current high demand for new talent, and Harvey was able to offer the students insight into his apprenticeship experience and show off his carpentry skills with a live demonstration.

Meriel and Martin shared the ways that Lovell supports and welcomes students into the construction industry though avenues such as apprenticeship schemes and the Network75 scheme. They then went on to run mock interviews with the students, give them helpful feedback, review their CVs and answer any questions about the schemes on offer. They also gave out commemorative Lovell-branded bamboo pens to mark the occasion.

Jonathan Morgan at Eastern High said:

“We sincerely appreciate Lovell attending the careers session at Eastern High. Over 30 students had the chance to connect with the team and participate in mock interviews. This experience provided our students with an invaluable opportunity to explore potential career paths and engage meaningfully with Lovell.”

Jamie Langdon said:

“We were proud to participate in the careers carousel event at Eastern High Community Campus in Cardiff alongside Lovell. This event was a fantastic opportunity to connect directly with students, sharing insights into the construction industry and inspiring the next generation of skilled tradespeople. We look forward to continuing to work with Lovell and its local schools and partners to inspire and prepare students for successful careers in construction.”

Gemma Clissett, regional partnerships director at Lovell, said:

“We were delighted to participate in this event with Eastern High Community Campus. Both construction and carpentry are industries that have so much to offer young people searching for the right career for them and it was wonderful to share that knowledge with the students, as well as giving them the opportunity to practice vital interviewing skills.”

The St Mellons Community Living Project is being built by Lovell for Cardiff Council and will provide high-quality, independent living accommodation for older people. The £17.2m development will deliver a total of 60 one and two-bedroom, self-contained apartments for social rent and a wide range of communal facilities.
