The WISERD 2019 Conference will take place over two days (Wednesday 3 – Thursday 4 July) at the Medrus Conference Centre, Aberystwyth University, Aberystwyth.

The conference is open to colleagues from across the academic, policy, public, private, and third sectors in Wales.

The theme for this year's conference is ‘Civil Society and Participation‘ and includes a variety of presentations, panel discussions and workshops on the following key themes:

    • Civil Society, Participation and Governance
    • Language Participation, Culture and Identity
    • Wales Global Connections: Civil Society and Participation in Context
    • Participation and Civil Society through the Life Course
    • Participation in Education
    • Participation in the Labour Market
    • Working with Communities
    • Participatory Research in Housing, Health and Social Care
    • Activism and Civil Society Research
    • Doing Participatory and Action Research

Keynote Speaker

We are delighted to welcome our keynote speaker:-

Professor Kevin Morgan, School of Geography and Planning, Cardiff University who will be giving a plenary lecture on Thursday 4 July.

PhD Student Competitions

PhD student poster competition – sponsored by The Learned Society of Wales awarding a cash prize of £200 for the winning poster.

PhD students are asked to stand by their poster to present and discuss their research to the reviewing panel of judges on Wednesday 3 July.

PhD Poster Pitching competition – sponsored by ESRC Wales Doctoral Training Centre –

PhD students have the opportunity to present the content of their poster in an engaging two minute ‘Poster pitch’. The presentation should be in an engaging lay manner that will encourage fellow conference attendees to view and discuss the research.

The winner will be announced at the WISERD 2019 Conference, and will receive a prize in the form of book tokens to the value of £200.  To enter, students need to register before Friday 15 May 2019, by sending an email with ‘Poster pitch’ in the subject box to [email protected] .

Accommodation 

En-suite accommodation is available at Aberystwyth University on Tuesday 2, Wednesday 3 and Thursday 4 July at a cost of £39.90 per night.

Reception 

The WISERD Politics and Governance Network will be hosting a networking reception, which is open to all delegates, following the keynote presentation by Professor Lynn Staeheli on Wednesday 3 July.

Dinner options for Wednesday 3 July

This year there will be an informal postgraduate social at 19:00 Yr Hen Orsaf (Wetherspoons).

However, all other conference participants are required to arrange their own dinner – details of options will be made available.
