Welsh Boxing Strengthens Board with Appointment of Legal Director

Welsh Boxing has appointed HCR Law Senior Associate Adam Munn to its Board as Legal Director.

With his extensive experience in commercial law, governance and the sports sector, Adam will support Welsh Boxing's Board as it invests in widening participation of the sport across the community alongside supporting the performance of its elite amateur athletes – particularly in the run up to this year's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow (23 Jul – 2 Aug).

Welsh Boxing is preparing a strong squad for this year's Games to build on its historic six-medal haul from the Birmingham 2022 games.

Adam's work within the sports sector has included supporting clubs, national governing bodies and other stakeholders on partnership structures, governance frameworks and risk management.

He said:

“This is a great opportunity to contribute to an organisation that has a genuine impact across Wales — from grassroots clubs to elite athletes.”

Adam also has a personal interest in boxing and can see the positive benefit the sport can have on individuals and communities.

His uncle runs a boxing club in Cardiff and while Adam has boxed himself, it's his two brothers who have seen success in the amateur boxing ring, including at the Commonwealth Games.

Alongside the obvious physical benefits, learning to box is a powerful outlet for stress while teaching essential life skills such as resilience and focus.

“I've seen first-hand the role it can play in building confidence, discipline and opportunity,” he said.

“And if I can't compete in the ring, the best way that I can support it is through my legal knowledge and experience.

“At HCR Law I work with many organisations on how to structure and manage their relationships, partnerships and wider legal risks.

“What that really comes down to is helping people make clear, practical decisions without overcomplicating things and making sure things are legally robust to support what the organisation is trying to achieve.”

Kate Oliver, Partner and Head of Sport, Media and Entertainment at HCR Law, said:

“Adam is an integral part of our team, and his appointment demonstrates his determination and passion to support the sector professionally.”

Adam added:

“It's a really exciting time for Welsh Boxing and its ambition to grow the sport in an inclusive and accessible way that genuinely benefits the whole sport, while strengthening the pathway for athletes to succeed at the highest level.”
