The winners of the inaugural Wales FinTech Awards were announced on Friday with guest of honour Mark Drakeford, First Minister of Wales who described the event as “shining a bright light on those businesses who are at the forefront of the FinTech industry in Wales.”

Wales Fintech Awards 2019 Winners

Hosted at an event held at the Tramshed in Cardiff, the Awards were founded by leading technology recruiter Recruit121. The awards recognise the true innovators who are driving the FinTech industry in Wales and are playing a key role in positioning the Principality as a leading hub within the whole of the UK.

Matt Hyde, Managing Director of the Wales FinTech Awards, said:

“Few areas of the Welsh economy have experienced the rapid rate of growth we have seen within the FinTech sector over the last few years.

“With the start-up rate for new entrants into the market showing no sign of slowing down any time soon, combined with the continued growth of the many established players already based here, Wales is fast-becoming one of the UK’s leading FinTech hubs.

“These awards were established to recognise the achievements made by many of these businesses and to raise greater awareness as to their importance to the Welsh and wider UK economy.”

First Minister Mark Drakeford went further to say:

“Nowhere has the strength of the financial technology sector in Wales been better demonstrated than with these Awards.

“This is a sector that supports 40,000 jobs and contributes over £8 billion to this country’s economy every year. These Awards have successfully provided an excellent opportunity to raise greater awareness as to the importance of this sector to the Welsh economy whilst shining a bright light on those businesses who are at the forefront of the FinTech industry in Wales.”

With overall sponsorship from Confused.com, the awards were supported by Active Quote, Blake Morgan, Eversheds Sutherland, Grapevine Event Management, Hodge Bank, LimestoneGrey, PwC, Refresh, Wealthify and Welsh Government.
